Success Story: Casey

Sat, 22 Jul 2006 11:42:04 -0400 - from Karen

Hi Mag,

This is what rescue is all about. They flew to NY and picked up Casey – and now she is enjoying herself at their SC condo at the beach before going home to GA.

In her previous home, Casey was crated for hours and now she gets to see what the world is all about!

Karen

We are finally rested a bit from the Wednesday trips. Casey made it fine, but Page was whipped. I have enclosed a few pictures from Thursday and Friday. She was a little shy Thursday. Today she has opened up some and has her ears up more. She has explored everything including the beach as you will see. Milo has been a perfect gentleman except for his blanket which he wants available when he wants it. Now there are two.

Casey Casey found the pillow/blanket and just knew it was for her. Milo Meanwhile, Milo checked out the Sherpa bag. He found a part of a treat in the bottom and retrieved it for himself.
Casey She explored the porch under Milo's watchful eye. Casey,Milo You have to look closely to tell them apart. Milo is a little grayer!
Casey,Milo But they found that they both like sunning in the morning. Casey She had very little hesitation over the beach. She went headlong into the water over a Sandpiper. Came prancing out of neck deep water proud that she had run the bird off.
Casey,Milo Nothing like a little sand on your nose. Casey,Milo I have a picture of Milo that looks exactly like this.
Casey,Milo Casey,Milo
Some parents with small children were taking pictures when their kids got excited over the dogs. Made for some great shots I'm sure. The parents were fun to watch, but I'm not saying anything since I have done the same thing once or twice!!

Casey

Thu, 27 Jul 2006 06:51:29 -0400 - from Wade

Casey has made herself right at home. Of course her first experience was at the beach, but she made the 4 hour car ride back to Augusta like a trooper. I wanted to send you a few more pictures and in a normal format. Some are at the beach and a few are from here.

Casey, Milo
This picture has already become one of my favorites. Both dogs at alert over something they see.

Casey
Spooked by a blowing plastic bag.

Casey
Watching the door for Page to return from the store.

Casey,Milo
One cocks the head right the other left!

Casey
Relaxed and content.

Casey
She has loved exploring the back yard today. Nose to the ground the whole time. When they find something smelly, why do they have to roll on it??

Casey
Page had to clean up her cell phone messages so Casey took the opportunity to snuggle.

She has made a new home and become a loved member of our family. They are so very cute together. The "welcome home" dances are twice as good.

Thanks for all your help. We know this transfer was a bit unusual, but it couldn't have come off better. Even the airline cooperated. Hope the pictures are fun.

Wade, Page, Milo and Casey.

Why we do what we do for min pins!

Fri, 13 Oct 2006 10:08:01 -0400 - from Karen

Hi Mag,

Can you please post the following email and photos on the min pin list website – It is a wonderful success story of a NYC senior min pin named Bobby that IMPS rescued. He was found abandoned in a busy, parking lot in the Bronx. He was in poor condition and had really bad teeth and some health issues. But with IMPS help and the NYC Mayor's Animal Alliance's help, Bobby was given a second chance at life. And what a good life he has now – in Raleigh, NC!

Thank you!

Karen

Bobby

Hi, Karen

Just wanted to let you know that Bobby is doing great and we LOVE him! He made the long road trip just fine. He and I stayed in a hotel on the way back -- good bonding. He gets along wonderfully with our other minpin, Zoe, and the cats are getting used to him now. He's very gentle with them. I've started obedience class with him, and he's so smart! He sure likes to bark at the bigger dogs, though! We are working on "quiet". We've had him to the vet (once we got his records) and an xray showed bad arthritis in one leg...he's been limping some. So we're talking with the vet about the best treatment options. We'll make sure he gets the very best care.

He's so cute and funny and loving.... and eager to please. I learn new things all the time that he already knows, like the "sit" command, and to come when I whistle. He's had very few house accidents, and all those in the kitchen so easy to clean up. He loves our fenced backyard and will pee (or try to) 37 times trying not to miss a single bush or twig or leaf!

Many thanks to you and to IMPS and all you do.... this little doggie guy has already been a HUGE blessing in our lives and we're grateful. I'll be in touch with my regional IMPS folks as Bobby settles in, to see if I can help out and to donate, as vet bills allow.

Thank you!

Laura (and Bobby)

Muffin's Story

Wed, 15 Nov 2006 01:08:07 GMT - from Cristina

Muffin

Muffin came to IMPS after being hit by a car and left untreated in a shelter for a week- she was a very sad and lonely little girl, in much pain when she first arrived in my foster care. Through the help of a wonderful vet and many many generous volunteers who donated money for her extensive surgeries, as well as sweaters and clothing, and a great x-pen to help with her potty training, we helped to not only nurse her back to health, but potty train her to wee wee pads!! Her leg doesn't even bother her at all!! She has turned out to be just the sweetest angel baby in the world, just a darling, and so energetic and playful! And in even better news, this week, she went to her perfect forever home!! This family has a penthouse in Brooklyn and another minpin playmate who is even tinier than she is! They were playing and romping the entire time they came to visit and pick her up, and have been having great fun ever since! They brought oodles of accessories and toys for her to try out, so you can tell she's going to be spoiled rotten ;> just the way we like it!! Thanks again to everyone who donated, you are all so wonderful I can't thank you enough!! You just can't know how much you're helped!! Sincerely, Cristina.

Milo - min pin success story

Sat, 16 Dec 2006 10:51:47 -0500 - from Kris

Milo

Mag, Hello!! I have been meaning to write this letter for a long time. We adopted our sweet baby Milo in October of 2005. He just been the best dog I could ever ask for. My kids begged me for years to get a dog and I felt they were not ready. Finally when we thought they were ready, we decided to get a dog to complete our family. I came across the IMPS web site while looking for a dog in need of a home on petfinder. We looked through the site and read up on min pins and decided that was what we wanted. We originally picked a min pin named Lovebug but soon after completing al paper work and home visit we found out he was already adopted. We went back to the site and there was our baby Milo!! My husband immediately said that's the little man for us!! He has just been such a joy to have. He is so loving and snuggly!! I was always a person who could not believe that pet owners let their dog sleep in bed with them. Much to my surprise, I miss my little man is he decides to snuggle up with one of the kids instead of me!! He is really good about it…..he makes the rounds and gives everyone a few hours of snuggly time each night!! I have included a few pictures to post as well. He looks so cute in his Santa hat!! The other picture is of him in his favorite place……in the warm laundry!! Every morning I ask him if he wants warmies and he goes crazy and waits for me to dump the laundry fresh out of the dryer on top of him!!! One is of him at Christmas last year looking over all the prizes that Santa left in his stocking. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!!

Thanks so much, Kris Mike, Jay, Hayley, Brian, Nicole, and our little man MILO!!!

Cappuccino

Tue, 29 May 2007 13:51:11 -0400 - from Alicia & Jason, via Karen

Cappuccino

This is a photo of Cappuccino (we liked the name so we decided to keep it but we corrected the spelling) that I took this morning while she was out resting in the sun in our backyard.

Cappuccino had her first visit with the family veterinarian this morning. She has passed with flying colors! Our vet thinks that her hair loss is a result of poor nutrition or hormones. We were told to just keep an eye on it to make sure that it doesn't get worse and to continue to feed her a nutritional dog food. I think that Cappuccino will like living with us - she already loves being outside in our backyard!

If you would like I will send you an update and photos once in a while so you can know how she is doing. Thank you so very much for giving us this precious little girl!!

Maddy,Minny

Mag,

These are my fosters that came in from the Manhattan shelter on New Years Eve. They were unbelievably skinny, malnourished, and apparently abused, with scares, etc, covering their bodies. The original names were Jack and Jill. They were very frightened and very aggressive. Now they are sweet as pie.

Thanks,

Update on Lucky (Idgit)

Fri, 23 May 2008 16:55:28 -0700 (PDT)

Lucky (Idgit)

I wanted to share an update on Lucy, also called Idgit. He was adopted by an VT volenteer, Wanda, her husband Peter, daughter Sami and Rotti Ollie. He was a really special foster, that was sooooo athletic. Sami is going to do agility with him. I have also attached his pic, look at him sprawling!

"Oh yeah, he's here - Larger than life!! Him and Ollie met well. They are going to be great friends, I am sure. Ollie had an attitude of "Oh God, not another dog" but he (Like his Daddy) comes around very quickly. He has found my bed the ultimate comfort spot. Curled up just behind the base of my back under the covers and his head over my hip...

He and Ollie are playing as I write. Lucky is a little wary of Ollie, just because of his size and his talking. He had a very busy night, sleeping on the bed, chasing the cats. He did have an accident, my fault not his. He woke me up with pawing and licks and I just thought that he was being loving. Well, now I know... found a small pile next to my bed this morning.

Well, we all slept in late... so I have to drive the kids to school. Oh the joys. Going to take the 2 mutts with me so they don't rip up the house and bark the whole time I am gone.

Oh, he's attached himself to me very quickly. I can't even go into the bathroom without him barking for me!!! We are going to work on that.... ;-) He is quite the little feisty dog isn't he?? ;-) He has managed to weasel his little self right into Peters favor. For Sami, Sarah and I it was Love at first sight. Thank you SO very much for letting us adopt him, He is so awesome.

Peter wants to know why other people gave him up he is a great dog! Oh, doesn't he do a perfect "Wait" at the door?!! He sat there for minutes ( I forgot to release him when I walked away ) Talk about having your heart stolen. You'd think as a rescuer I'd be immune to it.... Not when it comes to him...

Maybe we should have called him ping pong - yes, I saw the jumping... Kind of blows my mind a bit!!! He is going to be SO awesome at agility.

Yeah, I can deal with him being a punk. He loves to roll over on the floor shows me his belly with his little stump waggin' away as I give him belly rubs ;-) Yeah, he has his paw prints all over my heart!!!!

Yesterday he was sitting on the back of the couch watching everything happen in the house ( it is set up with it's back to the kitchen archway and the front into the Living room) and just so damned cute. Granted that's the fat butt Siamese's spot but they'll settle that out soon enough. Thing is it's a 20 pound cat!!! He won't hurt them but, they are fun to chase!!! It is just that my cats aren't used to small fast dogs like him! But it is all good.

He has been very good with Sami. More tolerant than I would be!!

So, I am out with Peter yesterday. When we were talking about Idgit there, he says to me "You know honey, he isn't such a bad dog at all. He's really good with the other dogs, the cats and Sami. He's a little something ( I called him a punk like you do) and he says Yeah, that's it, he's a punk" so, I go and buy him a new jacket, a martingale collar or 2 and some more little treats and he says with this big smile on his face "Yeah like we don't have enough collars, jackets and treats in the house, we could supply the pet stores" then he sees the jacket on him, the new collar and sees him sit pretty for his treat and says - "well, OK he does look cute... ;-)" I knew that they would hit it off. He stayed up with Peter last night and then cuddled up next to him when he came to bed...

On Monday, There was a lot of traffic in and out the front door, grocery's, Sami, the big dogs running in and out because Peter just got home.... Well, I thought Lucky was in the bedroom with the door shut right? Well NOT! So, we all go looking and calling for Lucky around the neighborhood. I am flipping out saying that a shut door stays shut yada yada yada. Sami is in tears, Peter is worried about the little dog because it is going to get real cold that night. It is going to rain or sleet. He has tags on but still we are all getting real upset we come back to the house and sit for a second to think...I hear tags... I wait... I think maybe it is Ollie... Next thing I see poking out of the kennel door is idgits little nose and I look in and there he is, laying down just as happy as can be... His kennel is left open when he is not in it... So, I call Peter and Sarah back in and we all have a good laugh at ourselves for not even bothering to look in his kennel because the door was open. All I can say is "He's a Keeper" I am SO in love with this guy!!!!

He is doing really well. Totally food motivated so that helps ;-) Sami spending time with him teaching him to "Over" a jump. Plus some basic commands. He is SO damned smart!! Cannot wait to get him into classes. He is going to rock the world in Agility ;-)

In the morning, he goes out, checks the yard for who did what where and then does his own business and comes racing up to the house like a dog with his tail on fire ;-) When he comes in, he boogies and heads straight for the cookie jar bouncing like a ping- pong ball!! He is such a punky thing tho isn't he??

I scoop him up, tell him to stop being a punky little brat and to sit down now. He does get a bit wired up and races around the house jumping over the couches and grabbing toys and sliding across the kitchen floor. He cracks us up!!!

Last night Ollie went and found one of those 14" rawhide sticks and started to enjoy it in the living room. Now, he has a growl like a Grizzly bear, Idgit weasels his way up to Ollie, as submissive as you can without peeing and swipes the thing from Ollie... He then prances away to his crate and goes in, leaving just his butt sticking out and proceeds to try to keep it...I know he has one already in his kennel so I take that one away from him, give him his and say to him - "You're very lucky to still be alive, that the big dog won't eat you up as a "Min pin egg roll", that he respects me when I tell him at he is not allowed to eat the little dogs". Granted the big dog knows that I will make Rottweiler roasts out of them if they did hurt a small one, but that IS beside the point - I seriously think he knows he is "home" for good.

I have an e mail out to my friend that does training, can't wait to get Sami and him into classes. He does a stunning down for me but plays oh so dumb when someone else asks him to do anything other than "Sit"

Idgit is having the time of his life. We went to the vet this past weekend and he puked in the car on the way there, then we went to the pet store and got some goodies, a new toy and some attention.

He tried to eat an Irish wolfhound, a husky and some poor old German Shep. Brought Ollie in to show him just how he is supposed to behave in public. Ollie lay down on the floor and let people walk over him, 2 puppies jump on him and kiss him up.

Then Idgit and Ollie went to check out the sale bin. On the way home, Idgit puked 2 more times and then poohed all over. He is crated next time we go out ;-) Yes, we still Love him to death. Poor guy must have thought he was going to be leaving us is what I think. Sami wasn't too thrilled with getting puked and poohed on but she told him that he was a Keeper just the same. ;-) He has been sneaking into her room and under the covers in her bed. Too Damned cute, it is!!! Pain in the butt and all,

It is finally warming up enough to give the stinky little dog a bath. This should be fun. Maybe I may send him back if he isn't good a getting a bath.... Not a Chance!!! But all in all the little red punk is doing very well. He just adds the right amount of mayhem to this house. What can I say - Love is blind huh?? Here is a recent photo taken by Sami.

Thank you again!!!

Lucy

Tue, 27 May 2008 19:41:05 -0700 (PDT) - from Annie, via Leah

Lucy

Hi Leah,

I just wanted to say I so wish that Nick, Lucy and I could make it to the Bark Heard Round the World! Unfortunately (well, OK, not so unfortunately...) we'll be in Spain. Lucy will be staying with my parents. I do wish that we could come and participate though, because after adopting Lucy I have to say I would never, ever get another dog unless it was a puppy mill rescue. I did see the Oprah special, which was horrifying and sad, and I can only hope Lucy's previous living conditions weren't as bad as all that! I know my Mom will get her next dog from a puppy mill rescue as well and I tell everyone who is considering a dog that it's the way to go.

Lucy is doing unbelievably awesome. She is loving being a "real dog." She's finally learning to play ball and fetch and she LOVES going outside now that the weather is warmer. She'll sit outside in the sun for hours just watching the world go by and sniffing the air. She's super friendly to everyone and no longer does her "scared" bark when people come around. Her coat is shiny and healthy and she's in good health!

So thanks again for bringing Lucy into our lives and opening us up to the world of puppy mill rescue adoptions!!!!! I hope the Bark event goes well.

Frenchy now Sammie update

Thu, 26 Jun 2008 06:07:55 -0700 (PDT) - from Leah

I wanted to share an update on a very special little foster, Frenchy, who is now Sammie. Sammie was in a NYC shelter with no chance of adoption, his teeth were rotting and he was nippy. Well IMPS stepped up to the plate and saved him, this is one of the many reasons why I love IMPS, we take all dogs, not just the young and healthy.

Sammie's teeth were so infected that IMPS had to do a dentistry. My vet, Dr. Harris, said it was more like oral reconstructive surgery, and this was the worst mouth she had ever seen. She is a wonderful vet who saved Sammie's life with her skilled and un-expected reconstructive surgery! She pulled 18 teeth, he was already missing 13 which left him with only 9 (dogs have 40-42 teeth usually) . Luckily for him, his new mom feeds a raw diet, so he can gum it!

Sammie

"Hi Leah!

I am sorry I haven't given you an update recently - our lives have been very hectic.....I wanted to let you know that Sammie is doing fantastically. He is now 5.4 lbs and has filled out nicely. He is such a clown - and plays, plays, plays. He looooves his toys and he and our young dobe Teddy are very close. Our older guy and Sammie seem to have an understanding - and they love to argue first thing in the morning about who is going to stand next to mommy while breakfast is being made. It is obvious that it has become a game though.

Sam loves to boss the cats around, and they let him which surprises us - he IS quite the bossy little man! He has a great sense of humor. He loves his daddy, but he is a mommy's boy - I have also become his evening playmate and I get pummeled on a regular basis

He knows he is here to stay - and he is spoiled rotten! He sleeps with us, and loves the couch pillow - those are his "perch" and he has to arrange them "just so" every time he goes to lay on them!

No worries - he is very well loved. I promise I will send more photos soon!

Lots of hugs - I hope things are going well for you!!
Jeannie & Sammie"

Kirby/Rex's adoption

Wed, 16 Jul 2008 08:59:26 -0400 - from Andrew, via Diane

Penny,Rex

Hi Di -

Everythings going well. Its been an adjustment having 2 dogs with 2 VERY different personalities, but it still has been a blessing. Yes Kirby does have a new name, Theodore Rex Turner aka T.Rex aka Rex....He's my little king of the dinosaurs. But Penny and Rex have grown to be fast friends and their only problems with eachother is when 1 wants to sleep or relax and the other wants to play...that causes them to get upset, but most of the time the 2 play with toys together or lounge on the window sill together.

We got them matching bandannas for the 4th of july...not suprisingly rex was amazed by fireworks...penny was bored the whole the time.

But everything is going good with the little guy I'd say we are up to a 70% perfect on the housebreaking here. He still is urinating in the house a little, mostly on wee pads though, but occasionaly on the kitchen floor.

His fungus growth on his head seems to be improving too, looks like they are scabbing over and beginning to regrow new hair.

But he has been and awesome little guy and a perfect addition to the family.

I'll tell him you said hi.

Thanks again for everything.

Ginger-NY IMPS success story!

Hi Mag,

Can you please post the following email and photos from John in Long Island. He adopted my first foster Ginger this past Labor Day weekend. Ginger's living the good life going on boat rides to private beaches! lol

Thanks!
Jennifer, Wali, and lil' Mikey

Ginger

Sorry that I hadn't gotten back to you sooner. Ginger is adapting very well, actually should call her Queen Ginger, she seems to have already manged to wrap us all around her little paws.

Her and the bird give each other the look and make some noises but nothing too much , they kinda give each other there own room.

Ginger has two beds which neither of them she uses, she much rather be on the couch between everyone or in bed with my wife and I .

As for the potty training she had an accident the first day we got home but since has been fine. So far her personality is showing us some very cute and funny things. I think she is adapting to us and the amount of people in the house very well.

I did not get a chance to download many pictures from my wife's camera but have a few from mine. These are here on the couch where we kinda gave her a spot .

Thanks you again for your help in the adoption .

OH, we did take Ginger with us on Sunday for a boat ride and to a small private beach which she loved, did not like the water but loved the beach. She even found a area in the boat to lay herself down.

Reggie

Hi Mag,

I was wondering if you could post this picture of my Reggie on the website. Our big man went over the bridge on March 11. He was 13 years old. We miss him terribly. He was in our family for all of his 13 years. I never had a dog quite like him. He was my first Min Pin and every day he made us laugh or just brought a smile to our faces. I still cannot believe he is gone.

Hope you are doing well.

Nancy, Joe, Jodie & Bingo
